A dead woman in her 40s was found covered in blood in a downtown women's shelter
yesterday, say cops.
"It's basically a suspicious death," Sgt. Pat Morphy said.
Morphy said cops are "leaning toward" the death being a suicide, but are
still waiting for autopsy results.
EMS Supt. Rob Sharman said emergency crews were called to the Women's Emergency
Accommodation Centre, near 96 Street and 101A Avenue, around 9:45 a.m. about a woman with
lacerations.
Sharman said paramedics found the woman in her 40s dead on scene.
"She had several wounds," he said.
Cops said the woman had a large slash wound to an arm.
Sharman said EMS secured the scene and called the police, who arrived about 10:30 a.m.
Bernadette Swan, a staff supervisor at the shelter, said she couldn't comment about the
death last night.
